Rising Star Alexa Duff Signs on

The Southern Hoiho are excited to announce the signing of rising star Alexa Duff for the 2023 Tauihi League Season.

The 16-year-old up and coming basketballer started playing when she was in Year 3 and has been playing ever since.

In her basketball career, she has consistently played at rep level and has spent time around the New Zealand national teams.

Most recently, Duff was invited to and attended regional trials in hope of being selected to represent New Zealand in the upcoming U17 FIBA Oceania Champs in October.

Duff is also heading to the Basketball New Zealand U17’s Nationals this week, set to represent Otago in the tournament.

Duff credited Otago Nuggets development coach Greg Brockbank for helping her get to the level she is now.

“He’s helped a lot, with lots of training,” she said.

Joining the Southern Hoiho will be another step in an already blossoming basketball career for Duff, one she believes will be good for her.

“I think it will be really good for me,” she said.

“Playing with the experienced girls will be really good.”

“I'm hoping to make the national team this year, so I think it will help me with that.”

“It's a higher level of play. I’m looking forward to being able to be involved in it.”

With the Tauihi League introducing the new Rapid League, Duff is excited by the addition to the competition.

“I’m excited about the new rapid league, I think it looks so cool.”

The Southern Hoiho’s first game of the season comes against the Tokomanawa Queens on the July 12, get your tickets now.
