Tyler Mitchell locked in for 2023

The Southern Hoiho are excited to announce the re-signing of shooting guard Tyler Mitchell for the 2023 Tauihi league season.

After picking up basketball at a young age playing mini ball, Mitchell spent her high school years playing basketball at Hamilton Girls high school.

Hailing from Te Kuiti in the North Island of New Zealand, Mitchell came down to Dunedin to study a Bachelor of Pharmacy leading her to the Hoiho.

After playing with the Southern Hoiho in last year’s inaugural Tauihi league season, Mitchell is excited to be extending her time with the club.

“I’m pretty excited, last year being my first year and getting to see what it’s all about,” she said.

“This year, I’m excited to be able to play again and keep developing my basketball knowledge and skills,” she said.

“The opportunity to play the game I love, and being able to now that I’m older and not having high school to still being able to play a good high level of basketball and keep that up is pretty exciting which I’m happy about.”

With the upcoming season debuting the Rapid League, an innovation to help fast-track player development, Mitchell is looking forward to being a part of it.

“This rapid league, it’s pretty exciting,” she said.

“I’m looking forward to that, to get more court time and to get to experience playing against everyone a little more.”

The Southern Hoiho’s first game of the season comes against the Tokomanawa Queens on the July 12, get your tickets now.
