Adams on board for Hoiho

The Southern Hoiho are delighted to announce the signing of small forward/center Sophie Adams for the 2023 Tauihi League season. 

Hailing from the Canterbury region, Adams played for Ashburton college while growing up as well as the Under 19 Waitaha (a combined Canterbury/North Canterbury representative team) and was a part of the Mainland Eagles Basketball Academy.

 Adams has already achieved so much at such a young age representing New Zealand as a junior tall fern in U16’s, U17’s and U19’s.

Coming to Dunedin to study, Adams has been a member of the Otago Gold Rush D-League team since 2021. 

 Ready for her first season in the Tauihi League, Adams said the development is something she is looking forward to. 

“The development that comes with playing with experienced players.” 

“Learning a new sense of the game.”

Adams said the signing with the Southern Hoiho made a lot of sense for her. 

“I study down here in Dunedin, so it was convenient,” she said.

“Since playing and meeting a few of the girls in Dunedin the past couple of years I decided to give it a crack.” 

The Southern Hoiho’s first game of the season comes against the Tokomanawa Queens on the July 12, get your tickets now.
